I write for my own viewing pleasure

Finding a niche area

So much so, I'm nearing completion of my studies and that I can prepare writing my cover letters soon, and that includes preparation for my contingency plans.

Oh yes, I must have mentioned life is about being spontaneous but that would gear more towards leisure. When it comes to your future, you cant really decide on the fly what you want to do. I've pretty much decided on my contingency plan. No its not security. No its not network. And yes its programming.

Surprise, surprise, surprise. Considering how stupid I was and how I sucked at Java last time during poly, choosing programming does not make one bit of a sense.

Indeed it doesnt, in fact my programming background revolves around asp and php, one of which is outdated and the other, rarely used in big firms. Sounds like suicide, till God gave me a sign. Sounds funny but yea on one fine day, I asked that I have no idea what to specialize in, so please give me a sign. And weeks later, my lecturer wrote a comment on my assignment. "You have the makings of a good programmer."

Of course I didnt exactly based on that comment alone to decide but that alone made me consider programming for the first time. I hated Java because I couldn't appreciate object oriented programming but I still did programming somehow, be it for FYP or for an inventory portal for work which were all not so object oriented especially with old school asp, known for its 'spaghetti code' since html and vbscript was meshed up together.

Suddenly it became all clear. I sucked at programming back then because I didn't take the effort to learn. So i recoded the entire php inventory portal to prove a point. Its now not only object oriented but ajax capable :)

Im such a geek but programming is still always going to be my last option. I'm still very bent in getting to Accenture's consulting. The only peeve is if my DL degree is going to put me at a disadvantage. I just hope my linguistic and writing abilities, coupled with my high GPA and technical background would be good enough.

And if it doesnt work out, Ill just go NUS and do a C#/ASP.NET course and that should be good enough.
Either way, I should be happy lah, I scored brownie points with ms chia and I think she likes me. :D
