How do u pronounce coup?

This classmate of mine was 'arguing' me over the pronounciation. He says its 'koop' and insists so! Wait even the whole class agreed its pronounced that way! Oh god can you believe that?! *slaps forehead*

ITS pronounced as KOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, minus the p. Its like the word - quay, I get bodoh fellows telling me "kway". I dont know whether to laugh or be annoyed.
